 | bout time 2
is a collection of groove jazz tunes, drawing on brazilian, funk, bebop and other contemporary groove sources, providing rhythmic backdrop for some harmonically rich, occasionally quirky, mostly easily approachable jazz playing.
its steve lodders first solo project though there have been collaborations with andy sheppard(moving image) and mark ramsden(above the clouds).
bout time 2 itself features andy sheppard(soprano/tenor saxes) on 2 tracks, mark ramsden (soprano sax) on 2 tracks, john harle(soprano sax)on the closing truly, and monica vasconcelos (vocals)on the donna lee reworking, lonnie and dee/frothy coffee.
other musicians include paul nieman,(trombone),paul jayasinha(trumpet),dudley phillips(bass),mike bradley(drums), and chris wells(percussion).
the cd draws from current production techniques, drum loops and synthesised sound sources,as well as including live piano tracks and horn recordings.for example clarissa-lost and found[mp3 sample] is all synthesizer sound-sourced save the (one handed) piano track, swinnerton heap vs.battison haynes,(2 cathedral organists from the early 1900s) uses sampled drum and bass alongside the very live sax and keyboards (not forgetting kenneth williamss boxing snippet).
